Catalpa
No site of mine would be complete without a collection dedicated to the sweetest, noisiest, goofiest, rowdiest rescued hound dog ever. To our best guess, Catalpa is a Foxhound/Whippet mix and about three years old. Her name has several inspirations: 1) simply put, we both love nature-inspired names; 2) the Catalpa tree has large, floppy leaves, much like the hound ears; 3) there is a street named Catalpa near an important and pivotal location for us.
She was brought up to the DC area in the summer of 2017 from North Carolina where we believe she was bred for hunting. After knowing her, we aren’t surprised she’s a failed hunter – this mix of scent hound with sighthound means Catalpa is really not great with either sense! Catalpa is a classic rescue dog, complete with months of severe separation anxiety in the begging and very specific triggers that send her shaking and cowering in fear. She will probably always have those responses, but fortunately, she now lives a very spoiled and content life and we love her so!
